We decided when we started our journal we'd be different. We decided to be unique. During the summer we sponsor the Best Emerging Writer Contest, for our Winter Issue we sponsor the Richard Bausch Short Fiction contest and in the spring we sponsor our Flash Fiction contest and give out the annual Gordon Award.

The winner of either of our contests wins $400 ($150 for the flash fiction contest) and 3-5 runners up have their submission fees returned. In addition, a select number of stories are given honorable mention. Yet, unlike every other contest out there with Our Stories everyone wins.

At Our Stories, we believe it is better to give than receive. We don't buy into the idea that you should submit stories to a contest and not get anything in return.

If your story is not chosen for publication, we give you a customized review. We're going to tell you about your plot, the dialogue, the beginning, and the ending. We're going to give you an MFA quality review for your story.

Don't just submit to a contest not get anything in return--find out how to improve your story. Your writing and your money is worth at least that, right?
